Trent Soyster - Broadway Connected University Spotlight Article

Trent Soyster has choreographed at Wexford Acting Studio in the past and was one of Miss Sarah's star performers at NASH in the musicals there. He has since moved on to a stellar college career and has reflected on some of his college experiences in an article that was published in Broadway Connected University Spotlight.

Here are some excerpts from that article.

When asked about what inspires him most about his future in theater and what theater means to him he replied:

"The thing that inspires me most to pursue a career in theatre is the way that we can help people to escape from the real world and take them to a different place. We allow audiences to suspend their disbelief and tell them a story that hopefully they will connect to in some way. We are able to provide a lens through which we look at the human experience and make some sort of commentary on how life is being lived. It has always been important to me to work on shows that I want to be a part of because when you have a visceral connection to the work, it is easier to put aside any ego and work endlessly and selflessly to serve the work."

His sage advice to potential musical theater students looking to go to college in the field is:

"My only advice for people who want to go into theatre in college is to trust your own journey. Don't look around to compare yourself to others because your own gifts make you unique and there is a program out there that is right for you. Even if you don't get it right the first time, you have to trust your own path and be extremely honest with yourself. If you are unhappy with where you end up at school, make a change! If you're the happiest person in the world, stay grounded and work really hard because there is always someone out there who is working and training just as hard, if not harder, than you are. It is also so important to do your research when searching for colleges! The well-represented, highest-reputation schools may not be right for you and know that your path is valid, no matter what route you decide to take."

His upcoming jobs:

"I have some choreographic and directorial projects lined up that I am incredibly excited for (one being Wexford Acting Studio's Musical Theater Summer Camp in June!) And....This fall, I will officially be pursuing a BFA in Musical Theater."
